Matt Hull making another run for Bismarck City Commission
Bismarck, ND — Matt Hull, a local archaeologist, is running for Bismarck City Commission in the June 9 election. He brings a passion for working with residents to continue to make Bismarck a wonderful place for all its residents to live, work, and play. Hull has always been interested in politics and first became inspired to run after attending the Bismarck Citizen Academy, a local program hosted by the city to enhance knowledge of city operations. However, his conversations with residents on the campaign trail in 2024 and his passion for uplifting their needs and voices are what truly motivated him to run again.
Hull has two core principles if elected. One is that we all put tax dollars into the City of Bismarck, therefore we should all decide the priorities the City focuses on. The other is looking for win-win situations where the City of Bismarck can save money and improve services at the same time. As such, if elected he would work on several initiatives based on resident priorities, including a low-barrier shelter for the homeless rather than using the county jail, and a 5th Street pedestrian corridor to encourage Event Center visitors to patronize downtown businesses.
As a new father of twins, Matt's top priority as City Commissioner is to ensure his service leaves Bismarck a better place for all its current residents and future generations. He plans to approach the position with an open mind and honest heart.
In his own words, Matt Hull is running for the Bismarck City Commission because, “I love what this community has to offer and hope, if elected, to continue to grow this great community for the benefit of all.”

Matt Hull is just fundamentally that guy: the person who wants to help
Matt Hull barely knew us when we found out we were moving to Bismarck, ND. But when my husband flew to Bismarck for interviews, Matt met him for dinner and gave him the inside scoop on the city. He looked at apartments for us, acting as our eyes and ears in a strange-to-us city, so we’d have a comfortable, safe place to land. After moving, Matt hauled all our belongings up a flight of stairs into our apartment. And then he treated us to dinner.
Matt dropped everything to jump-start our car’s battery on a bitter cold day. He is the person you trust to take care of your pet when you travel and the person you give your spare key to. Matt is the person you know will always show up. And in fact, when we moved a second time, he carted all our furniture back DOWN that flight of stairs!
In short, Mall Hull exemplifies the ideals of North Dakotans on the whole, always happy to lend a hand and offer welcome to the city he loves. He is generous, open-hearted, and a friend to everyone he meets—eager to listen and learn. I absolutely believe he will bring those same qualities into the position of Bismarck city commissioner.
Bismarck can only become more prosperous with the leadership of Matt Hull, and in talking to him about why he decided to run for commissioner, it was clear to me that for him, civic leadership isn’t about ego or personal gain. It’s just about stepping up to lend a hand, guaranteeing Bismarck has a choice in its city elections, and ensuring the voices of its citizens are heard.
Matt Hull is just fundamentally that guy: the person who wants to help.
And Bismarck? I think we should let him.
